IMPORTANT NOTE: Travel Details!
Dear
participants, PLEASE sent your arrival time and departure time to Mr. Dimitris
Vayenos (E-mail: dimitris-bio@hotmail.com) in order to arrange your
transfer from Chania Airport or Souda Port to the conference center
ARRIVAL IN
CHANIA
Chania is the
closest airport to Kolymbari (39 km). Located in Akrotiri (14 km east of the
town), it offers several daily flights from/to Athens as well as some charter
flights from all over Europe. Athens is served by the "Eleftherios
Venizelos" International Airport. All flights - both domestic and
international - arrive and depart from this airport, serving Greece's major
carriers Olympic Airlines and Aegean Airlines, as well as all other airlines.
Some scheduled airlines and charters have direct flights from some major
European Airports to Chania International Airport (CHQ).
OAC can be reached
from the Chania Airport by taxi, public bus, or rental car. The full fare for a
taxi, including airport surcharge is around 60 Euros. By bus is
cheaper (line Chania - Castelli), however, the bus stop is located at a distance of
about 1 km from the OAC.
Sea
Chania can be
reached from Athens daily by boat. Boats dock at Chania's port Souda bay, which is located about 7 km east of the city of
Chania. From there you can reach Chania and Kolymbari by bus or taxi.
ARRIVAL IN
HERAKLION
We advise that you do NOT fly into Heraklion as the bus
connection between Heraklion and Chania takes approximately 3 hours and a taxi
can be very costly.
If you decide to
fly to Heraklion, which is located in 160 km from Kolymbari, you can reach
the conference site by taxi (one-way fare around 140 Euros) or by bus from Heraklion to Chania (one bus per hour, line Heraklion-Rethymnon-Hania, duration about three hours) and then to the OAC.
ISLAND OF
CRETE
The island of Crete
(area = 8,261 sq. km, coastline = 1,050 km) is the largest Greek island and the
fifth largest island in the Mediterranean.
It is one of the 13 regions of Greece and the southernmost district of the
European Union.
